They have the gall, the audacity
to comitt horrific crimes
is it not enough to put people in ovens
to snuff out life
technology now allows the perpetrators to microwave
our fellow-man
to eradicate with lasers
utilizing the secrets of the universe
the life-giving power of energy itself
to perform the most base
of human crime
MURDER...
but not even the distance
between
high technology and the lowest form
of human behavior
is enough to preserve today's Cain and Abel
on one side
militants boldly behead and broadcast
for the world to witness
while the other
clothed in the disguise of a "Noble Cause"
use secret, high-tech methods
to accomplish the same end
while caught in the middle
ultimately paying the price
an unwilling, unsuspecting human sacrifice

The horror of this insanity
should awaken, shock the conscience
of the most distant, remaining
remnant of human compassion

where, 'o where
is the moral outrage
what is left of God's people
that they knowingly perform
this gross in-human indignity
yet
suffer no moral indignation...

Where, oh God
is the remnant of the human heart
the lament that would suffer this
that thou so tenderly
brought to life in an earthly
paradise...
spread before him

today
I went blind
instead of darkness
all i saw was light

we have to look past the superficial
obscuring
perceptions that we may get of others
to get to the true and noble
characteristics
that lie just below the surface
but nonetheless
are real and enduring
